Going the distance for cybersecurity: Meet Julie Baker, head of the TD Innovation Center
They work to meet the diverse and ever-changing needs of customers and employees. They adapt and innovate, expand their expertise to enrich the lives of those around them. They are passionate and driven.
In this four-part series, we introduce you to some of the unique roles and employees behind the scenes at TD helping to deliver for customers and communities.
Julie Baker doesn't shy away from change—a trait that was evident when she relocated to Tel Aviv from New York to help establish TD's new cybersecurity office.
"I love the Israeli mindset and culture," she says. "There is no fear of failure here, and there is this commitment to innovation and thinking outside the box to find the next cybersecurity solution. It is why we're here."
Baker, the head of the TD Innovation Center in Israel, and her team support the bank's ongoing development of cyber-related research, innovation and learning programs. TD is the first Canadian financial institution to tap into Tel Aviv's high-tech and start-up community by opening a dedicated office in the city, joining other global companies who have set up operations to leverage that expertise.
"Establishing a physical presence here gives us a direct line into one of the world's leading markets for cyber talent, skills and technology," says Baker, whose role includes building partnerships with companies like Deloitte, Cisco and Microsoft and working with digital innovation and cybersecurity startups.
When companies—like TD—look to explore and implement digital tools and services to enhance and increase customer and employee interactions, cybersecurity is a key priority.
"By working with Israeli cybersecurity and fintech startups to help us find, test and implement new cybersecurity tools and services, we will ensure our customers are always protected," she says.
Baker states as cyber-attacks become more sophisticated, the TD Innovation Center allows the bank to face cybersecurity challenges head on.
"We need to adjust and respond fast and our lab here in Tel Aviv allows us to do just that."
